World Mental Health Day 10th Oct 2018
The Department of Psychiatry and behavioural
sciences celebrated the Mental health day on 10th October 2018 by arranging a
seminar at Faisalabad
medical university.
There are 1.8 billion young people in the world
between the ages of 10 and 24. Interestingly, 9 in 10 of the world’s young
population live in less developed countries.
Approximately 1 in 5 youth aged 13–18
experiences a severe mental disorder at some point during their life.
The world health federation chose “ Young people and their mental health in changing world” to
be this year’s theme with the sole purpose of providing awareness about young
people’s mental health issues in twenty first century.
Professor Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad Dogar, Head of
Department of Psychiatry welcomed the Honorable guests including Chief guest,
Dr. Zafar Ali Chaudhry, Vice chancellor Faisalabad medical university, Mrs.
Shazia shareef, General secretary All Pakistan Private school alliance, Ms
Nausheen Haider Principal Beconhouse School system Civil-lines Branch, Mrs.
Zahida Azhar, supervisor at Sub-sanatzar welcare foundation, Ms. Anila jabeen,
senior instructor at Allied Nursing School, Dr Asif Bajwa, consultant
psychiatrist and other reputable guests.
Dr. Zafar Ali Chaudhry during his speech described
how not only one’s body is affected during mental illness, ones soul is damaged
too. Prof. Imtiaz Ahmad Dogar elaborated the causes of mental illnesses in
young people and solutions to deal with them. Dr. Irum Saddique gave insight
into myths and misconception regarding mental illnesses. Post- graduate
residents of Psychiatry and clinical psychologists highlighted the emerging
issues of temperament, child- parent relationships, physical/emotional abuse,
bullying, cyber crimes, relationship problems, substance abuse and increase
rate of suicide in young people.
This year’s theme captivated young audience
consisting of students of Beconhouse School System, Allied Nursing School,
child dream centre and Sub-sanatzar Welcare Foundation.
