Weekly lectures on the subject are started in Second year MBBS and are completed in Third Year MBBS. The lectures are delivered in Lecture Halls in the Punjab Medical College campus. Behavioral Sciences is a compulsory subject in the Second professional MBBS examination of UHS conducted at the end of Third year. The lectures are aimed at preparing the students for the above mentioned exam.
Weekly lectures are delivered in Final year MBBS class in the specified Lecture Hall in Punjab Medical College campus. Psychiatry in not a separate in professional examinations. However compulsory questions on the subject are included in the Medicine paper. There the lecture schedule is designed to prepare the students of Final year MBBS accordingly.
As OSPEs (Objectively Structured Practical Evaluation) form almost 50% of the total marks in the Professional examination in this subject therefore regular trainings and rehearsals are conducted in the Punjab Medical College campus. For this purpose students are divided into groups to ensure proper training
Clinical training in psychiatry is imparted according to a scheduled ward program. Final year students are divided into batches according to the Punjab Medical College timetable. Each batch has to attend the Psychiatry ward in DHQ Hospital for at least one week. Students are coached to practically evaluate and manage patients admitted in the ward. While selecting patients for ward training, care is taken to cover psychiatric disorders most prevalent in Pakistan and likely to be encountered at primary care level.
Class tests are held regularly. The tests consist of MCSs as per requirements of UHS Professional exam. It is important to mention that the UHS has allocated 10% marks for internal assessment in the Professional exam. The tests are held to finalize the above mentioned marks
Class tests in the form of MCQs according to the prescribed syllabus are held in the Lecture Hall of the Punjab Medical COllege campus to ensure proper preparation of students for their Final Professional Medicine paper.
The Department is recognized for MCPS training since 2004. Five trainees have so far been enrolled and two have qualified in this category

The department organizes training workshops in collaboration with District Health Development Center (DHDC). There were 20 batches of 20 doctors each working in Basic Health Units, Rural Health centers and Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals, who were trained in the assessment and management of priority psyhiatric disorders. i.e. Depression, Psychosis, Mental Retardation, Drug Dependence and Epilepsy, in about two years time. During last one year 10 batches of each 20 doctors were trained in management of psyciatric emergencies. They were certified by DHDC.
